MEET THE CREATOR
Hello, I’m Jessica Martinez
Food blogger, home cooking advocate, and your guide to wholesome, nourishing meals
My Journey to Whole Grains & Home Cooking
Growing up in Portland, Oregon, I was surrounded by incredible food culture. My grandmother, Abuela Rosa, taught me that the best meals come from simple, quality ingredients prepared with intention and love. She believed that food was the way we showed care for our families—and she was absolutely right.
For years, I worked as a nutritionist and wellness coach, helping people understand how food impacts their health and happiness. I noticed a pattern: people wanted to eat better, but they felt overwhelmed by complicated recipes and conflicting nutrition advice. They were hungry for real guidance, not fad diets or processed shortcuts.
That’s when Grainy Plates was born. I created this space to share recipes that celebrate whole grains, lean proteins, and seasonal ingredients—meals that are simple enough for busy weeknights but nutritious enough to make a real difference in how people feel. Every recipe on this blog has been tested in my kitchen and refined to deliver incredible flavor and real nourishment.
My Cooking Philosophy
These principles guide everything I create at Grainy Plates, from recipe development to how I share this community with you.
Real Ingredients Only
No shortcuts, no processed substitutes, no artificial flavors. Every recipe uses whole grains, fresh proteins, and seasonal produce. If I wouldn’t feed it to my family, it doesn’t appear on Grainy Plates.
Approachable Cooking
You don’t need to be a trained chef to cook amazing food. My recipes are designed for everyday home cooks—clear instructions, reasonable prep times, and techniques you can master. Cooking should be enjoyable, not stressful.
Nourishment Comes First
Good food should make you feel better—energized, satisfied, and happy. Every recipe balances nutritional value with incredible taste. You shouldn’t have to choose between health and flavor.
